Is a separate conclusion paragraph necessary for a thesis/antithesis/synthesis paper? It's sounding very similar to the synthesis paragraphs as I write and I'm having trouble making a solid distinction between the two.

No, not really. But the last paragraph of the essay needs to expand its scope back to the real world and offer an application.
